Late September Postscript: I wrote the above a couple of months ago. I have now read 12 of the Man Booker longlist, and I am currently reading the 13th and final book on the list. It is still Harvest by Jim Crace that satisfied me the most, and it is almost certainly the first of the 13 that I will read again.
